Pink Floyd was a highly influential English rock band known for its psychedelic and progressive music, philosophical lyrics, and elaborate stage shows. Formed in the 1960s, the band's history is often divided into two main periods.

Early psychedelic era (1965–1968)
The original members were Syd Barrett (guitar, vocals), Roger Waters (bass, vocals), Richard Wright (keyboards, vocals), and Nick Mason (drums). Their debut album, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn (1967), is a notable psychedelic work. Due to mental health issues, Barrett was replaced by David Gilmour in 1968.

Progressive rock era (1968–1985)
Following Barrett's departure, Roger Waters became the main lyricist, and the band produced iconic concept albums known for exploring deep themes.
